The British Benevolent Association for the Province of Girona (BBA) was set up as a registered charity in 2007 with the aim of providing practical help and support to any British or Commonwealth subject living in, staying in or passing through the Catalonian province of Girona and its Costa Brava. The practical help is provided through a network of volunteers across the region and supported by donations and fundraising events.
Whilst the British Consular Service is there to provide formal and emergency support to its nationals abroad, the BBA can provide longer term and informal assistance, which can include everything from home visits to the elderly, to practical help with local agencies, shopping or even dog walking where the owner is temporarily incapacitated.
The BBA Governing Committee meets regularly to manage membership, requests for help, volunteer co-ordination and fundraising events. Many BBA members are active volunteer helpers throughout the year, whilst others choose to occasionally volunteer – perhaps because they only spend part of their time in the region. The vast majority of members are just committed to supporting the BBA with donations and, when they can, attending the many fundraising events held each year.
The BBA is very keen to recruit new members, both potential volunteers and others that contribute through more passive support. If you would like to become a member do please visit our ‘Join Us’ page on this site. All members receive regular updates on BBA activities both by email and through this website so you can keep up-to-date with what we are up to.
