Privacy Policy

The British Benevolent Association Girona’s (BBA) privacy policy reflects our duties under European Data Protection Acts to use information fairly, keep it secure, make sure it is accurate, and keep it up to date. This policy applies to all the pages hosted on this site and data collected by the BBA from members, volunteers and clients. It does not apply to any other organizations to which we may provide a link and whose privacy policies may differ.

Please read the following to understand how your personal information will be treated by the BBA. The policy may change from time to time so please check back periodically. 1. What information do we collect?

We collect personal information as volunteered by you in our membership forms, donations, requests for help and volunteer reports. However, you can access our web site without disclosing any of your personal data. We also collect data in relation to those individuals for whom we provide assistance, this data may have been provided by the individual themselves when requesting the BBA’s help, or a third party who is requesting the BBA’s assistance on behalf of someone else. Finally, our volunteers are required to report on their individual activities to the Volunteer Co-ordinator and this may generate further personal data.

2. How is your information used?

Members:

The BBA uses the information you provide on the Membership Application form to record your membership, provide contact details for communications to you about the BBA’s activities and items that may be of interest to you. The information collected also helps us understand more about our supporters and to make improvements to our organisation.

Volunteers:

The BBA uses the additional information you provide, NIE and date of birth, in order to provide insurance cover for your volunteering activities. This information is shared with the Federacio Catalana de Voluntariat Social, which is our insurance provider. All reports on volunteering activities submitted by volunteers to the BBA Volunteer Co-ordinator remain at all times confidential and may only be shared where necessary with members of the BBA’s Governing Committee.

Clients:

Personal data that you, or a third party, provide when requesting help from the BBA is received by the BBA Secretary and Volunteer Co-ordinator in the first instance. Minimised information, enough to allow people to know whether they have the skills and are in a position to help you, is then circulated to our volunteer network.

All of your personal information collected from the initial request for help, volunteer reports and any other sources during the period the BBA is working with you will remain at all times confidential to the Secretary, Volunteer Co-ordinator and your volunteer/s. It may only be shared, and only if necessary, with other members of the BBA’s Governing Committee.

3. Does the BBA share your information?

The information you provide will not be sold or rented nor will it be shared with third parties unless we are required to disclose the information by law.

4. How secure is the information you give us?

The BBA uses industry standard efforts to safeguard the confidentiality of your personally identifiable information. We make every effort to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. However, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100 percent secure.

5. How can you access, correct or delete your data?

If you think some data has been collected by the BBA about you that is incorrect you can request corrections by contacting the Secretary at britbengiron@gmail.com. The BBA deletes all of the personal detail it has accumulated about you when its volunteers finish providing the help you need. Only your name, classification of help given and area of abode are retained. If you wish to query whether your personal data has been deleted please contact the Secretary at britbengiron@gmail.com.

6. How do you opt out of receiving messages from the BBA?

We will only send you emails if you have given us permission to contact you about the BBA’s work. We do not send out random, untargeted emails (spam). You can opt out of receiving any further emails by rescinding your membership of the BBA by contacting the Secretary at britbengiron@gmail.com.

If you decide to opt out from your membership of the BBA all personal details we have about you will be deleted immediately.

8. How can you find out more about your rights under the Data Protection Act?
